Why Writing Is Fun?

Do you like writing?

Since I was in grade 6, I already wrote in my small diary which I discreetly kept in between my piled clothes. In that diary, I wrote things I usually could not share with others (e.g. teenage crush). Though when I reached high school, my passion for writing was replaced by reading—yes, reading Tagalog pocketbooks (Helen Meriz) and English novels (e.g. Sweet Valley High, Harlequin, Sidney Sheldon, etc.). Back then, I would read pocketbooks and novels more often than my textbooks. My passion for writing was revived when I was a university student. Writing was like my

outlet for it allowed me to express myself quite openly and honestly. I almost enrolled to the AB English course but dismissed the thought since the major was creative writing and I could not consider myself a creative writer.

Nevertheless, I still enjoy writing. I can write an article within 30 minutes or an hour depending on my interest of the topic. For me, writing is fun for these reasons:

1. It makes you express your inner feelings and thoughts.

There are just some things/ideas that we can easily express in writing. Maybe because we can still organize our thoughts and think of better expressions since we have the time to do so. For things and experiences too private to share

to others, we can just write them in our diaries and journals.

2. It makes you think more deeply.

Definitely when you write, you think more actively and deeply as you try to express what’s in your mind and in your heart.

3. It develops your creativity.

Writing is very creative (except for business/corporate writings). You can write anything from a simple to a more complicated article, poems, short stories, novels, etc. You can definitely be as creative as you want depending on the genre you choose. In my case, I prefer writing articles of different topics. (I used to write romantic poems more than a decade ago though.)

4. It enhances your writing skills.

I believe constant writing makes you a better writer. Your thoughts become more fluid and writing them comes out naturally.

5. It makes you earn, too.

Writing is definitely just a hobby for me but you can also earn by publishing your write-ups online—for instance, be an article writer for ExpertsColumn.

What do you think?

For me, I just enjoy writing as I enjoy life!
